This unique three day “Performing with Puppets” Camp will be held Wednesday, July 19, through Friday, July 21, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Puppetry Arts Institute, a nationally known puppet museum and studio.

Using vintage Hazelle puppet stock, campers will design their own hand puppets, manipulate marionettes and learn about and perform with a variety of puppets.

Students will write, rehearse and perform under direction of professional puppeteers.

This puppet camp culminates in a premiere evening performance by the students at the Third Friday Art Walk in the Englewood Arts District from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Kraig Kensinger is a professional puppeteer and
“edu-tainer” who worked for the University of Missouri, traveling all over the state presenting nutrition puppet shows to hundreds of schools. He also has written, produced and performed many hand and marionette puppet shows such as Wizard of Oz, Jack and the Beanstalk, Big Top Circus and many others. He currently serves as Artistic Director for PAI.

Anitra Steele is a retired librarian who was in charge of children's programming for the Mid-Continent Public Library. During those years she wrote and performed a large variety of hand puppet shows. She currently volunteers at PAI supervising the puppet painting workshops and performing her shows on the road at schools and day care sites.

Kathleen Vest is a retired sixth grade teacher from the Independence schools. She has led puppetry training classes at her school and church and enjoys performing with hand puppets.
